The lab manual comes packaged with a CD-ROM containing computer programs to help with certain labs and concepts of microbiology. The software is compatible with either PC Windows based computers or the Macintosh system. To run the programs, the student simply inserts the CD-ROM disk into her computer, and the software start ups automatically.  Once the software has loaded onto the student's computer, she is provided with a menu containing a list of programs which are described below. 

This program complements Exercise 22 Control of Microorganisms: Antibiotics. When antibiotics were first discovered they were thought to be magic bullets that would eliminate infectious disease forever. This program describes how we are losing the effectiveness of these magic bullets through antibiotic resistance.

Sero-Logical is an integral part of Exercise 24 Serological Tests. In this lab students perform a RPR test for syphilis. Then the Sero-Logical program provides them with an opportunity to practice your critical thinking skills and discover how the ELISA and Complement Fixation Tests work.

This program provides students with a fun game to help learn the scientific names of microorganisms.  Students are able to choose which microbes to study.  They then make bets and answer questions as the program keeps track of their winnings.
